Spider Infestation Signs

Spider infestations can get quite large, which is definitely something we don’t want to really think about. Imagine dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of spiders in your home. Not only that, but even dangerous spider species can get quite numerous if they have the right conditions at their disposal. There have been cases where a single home was infested with thousands of brown recluses. So you want to get rid of a spider infestation as soon as you notice the first signs that it is coming. Here are some of those signs:

  • Webs inside and outside the structure. Spiderwebs can appear in different places depending on which species they were spun by.
  • Egg sacs. Spider egg sacs can be stuffed with anywhere from ten to thousands of eggs, depending on the species. If spider eggs are found during an inspection, you can remove them using a vacuum cleaner or a broom.
  • Other insects. The spiders come to a structure looking for prey and are attracted to the presence of other insects. If you see flies or mosquitoes buzzing around, you want to make sure that all your food is sealed and out of reach, and that you do not have any standing water on your property. When these insects are indoors, the spiders will soon follow.

If the spiders are already inside, you can take some measures to halt the growth of the infestation. For long-lasting, effective results, it is important to use the right products during this process. Use a long residual insecticide or repellent to treat cracks and crevices. Apply the solution at entry points such as doors, windows casings, and eaves. An application of broad-spectrum insecticides around the perimeter can also be helpful in eliminating spider food sources.

Sometimes however, spider numbers may still get out of hand, despite these measures. This is when you will need the help of a pro. A pro will perform a thorough inspection, locate all the spider nests and most of the spiders and then remove them for you. You also want to work with a pro if you are dealing with a dangerous species infestation, such as a black widow or brown recluse colony.
